Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Safe, painless removal of problematic wisdom teeth by expert oral surgeons. We use advanced techniques to ensure minimal discomfort and quick recovery.
What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last teeth to emerge, typically appearing between ages 17 and 25. Most people have four wisdom teeth, one in each corner of the mouth. Due to evolutionary changes in jaw size, there's often not enough room for them to properly emerge.
When wisdom teeth don't have enough space, they can become impacted (stuck beneath the gum), grow at wrong angles, or only partially emerge. These situations can lead to pain, infection, damage to other teeth, and other dental problems.
Fully Erupted
Wisdom teeth that come in completely and are properly aligned may not need removal.
Partially Impacted
Only partially emerged teeth are prone to infection and decay, often requiring removal.
Fully Impacted
Teeth trapped in the jawbone can cause pain, cysts, and damage to roots of adjacent teeth.
Signs You Need Extraction
- Pain in back of mouth
- Swollen, tender gums
- Jaw stiffness or pain
- Difficulty opening mouth
- Bad breath or taste
- Recurring infections
Reasons for Wisdom Tooth Removal
Understanding why problematic wisdom teeth should be removed to protect your oral health.
Prevent Crowding
Emerging wisdom teeth can push other teeth, causing misalignment and undoing orthodontic work.
Eliminate Pain
Impacted wisdom teeth often cause recurring pain, headaches, and jaw discomfort.
Prevent Infection
Partially erupted teeth create pockets where bacteria thrive, causing pericoronitis and abscesses.
Protect Adjacent Teeth
Impacted wisdom teeth can damage the roots and enamel of neighboring molars.
Prevent Cysts
Impacted teeth can develop cysts that damage the jawbone and nearby teeth.
Easier Cleaning
Hard-to-reach wisdom teeth often develop cavities and gum disease due to difficulty cleaning.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction Steps
Our systematic approach ensures safe extraction with minimal discomfort and quick recovery.
Consultation & X-rays
We examine your mouth and take X-rays or a 3D scan to see the exact position of your wisdom teeth, their roots, and proximity to nerves.
Treatment Planning
Based on the examination, we create a personalized extraction plan and discuss anesthesia options (local, sedation, or general) based on complexity.
Anesthesia Administration
We ensure you're completely comfortable before beginning. Local anesthesia numbs the area, while sedation options help anxious patients relax.
Tooth Extraction
For simple cases, the tooth is loosened and removed. For impacted teeth, a small incision is made, and the tooth may be removed in sections.
Wound Care
The extraction site is cleaned and may be stitched if necessary. Gauze is placed to control bleeding and help a blood clot form.
Post-Op Instructions
We provide detailed care instructions, prescriptions for pain and antibiotics if needed, and schedule a follow-up to ensure proper healing.
